With the 15% local loan effective, in conjunction with the Ministry of Health, NMSI begun a full design finalisation and sign-off process for both the hospitals and the mini hospitals.

A UK design review meeting was hosted at the NMS Infrastructures offices in Poole, on the South coast of England, with a Ministry of Health and Ministry of Infrastructure and Development delegation in attendance for the week of Monday 14th May.

NMSI’s Director of Construction, Matt Jordan, said “it was an absolute delight undertaking the design review with the MoH, resulting in a very productive week with an exceptional outcome. Agreement was reached on the designs of both the Mini and District Hospitals, allowing the programme to proceed.”

An extremely productive review of the equipment lists also took place during the design review meeting, resulting in the Zambian MoH’s approval of the medical items required for the Mini Hospitals in addition to informative discussions as to the hospital design layout.  Louis Oliver, NMSI’s Director of Purchasing and Logistics, said that positive discussions had taken place with the Zambian delegation and that he was looking forward to working with all concerned to progress the purchasing and logistics input to the project.

The design of the 200 bed district hospitals (artist impression above) is an upgrade on what has already been successfully built in Ghana for their “Built To Care Ghana” project.
